Linda Bruzzone – On Lynch Cancers and the Importance of Genetic Testing

Linda Bruzzone is the Founder and Executive Director of Lynch Syndrome International. Linda was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer in late 2007 and was diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome in 2008. As a retired law enforcement officer and investigator, Linda has dedicated the past few years of her life toward creating public awareness and education about Lynch Syndrome. Lynch Syndrome is a hereditary disorder caused by a mutation in a mismatch repair gene in which affected individuals have a much higher than normal chance of developing colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer, and various other types of aggressive cancers, often at a young age. It is also called hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer. Children of an individual with Lynch syndrome have a 50% greater chance of acquiring the mutation.
